Coffee Dreams
|

My face was red, and I could feel the heat in my skin. The laughter was a distant echo
in the strange foggy world in which my mind swam. All I could think about was the momentary touches and contact
while we blathered incessantly. I really had no idea what I was saying, but I knew it was funny.
It was a sense of exhilaration that drove my words and body. I was all hand gestures
and speech, arm motions and spittle. I took notice of the prying eyes watching from every corner, maybe we
were disturbing them, maybe I didn't give a rats ass.
Thoughts mingled like lucid dreams. I spent more time in my head then seeing or
hearing my surroundings. The laughter constant and easy, the tension high and every muscle ached for action.
Each moment a darting hand, an arm outstretch, a crossing of the legs, a shifting in the soft yielding sofa cushions.
It felt like an eternity as time stood still, but continued to flow around me.
Then slowly the fade in of the surroundings, the ever present hum receded and things take on a tactile
reality. Slowly the artificial tension leaves ache in over used facial muscles. Slowly life takes on a
less vivid, less sparkling appeal. Slowly I see the spectacle I might have been, but never really grasp the idea.
In the end I am a worn out, but peaceful and very grateful for the thrill of coffee.
Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend
The other day I was looking through the house wares section of a local Winners
department store. Winners carries nothing but leftovers, overstock, and out of season items at reduced
prices. Being the frugal and all around cheapskate shopper that I am, one can understand why I was
rummaging through their goods.
I am Jacks eye balls. What do I find in the house wares section, but a selection of
coffee, tea, and edible accessories. These included flavoured coffees, teas, and things like biscotti and
chocolates. Yum! Which brings me to the 1 lbs bag of Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend coffee that caught my ever
coffee vigilant eye.
I am Jacks recollection. Jamaican Blue Mountain is one rare bean, that gets an
extortionate price at the local beanery. We are talking something in the neighborhood of $70CDN per pound.
I have had real Blue, courtesy of our very own Mr. Pants, and I have to say it really is heavenly. It has
an earth tone, but it does not taste dirty. It is not sharp, but not dull either. Mostly I think it tastes
like a cross between cocoa and coffee, and it makes me higher then a kite.
What we have here though is a Blend from the boys and girls at National Coffee Brands Inc.
The beans are smaller then should be, indicating they are somewhat less quality then the real stuff. The bag smells
great though, with good aroma after grinding.
I am Jacks taste buds. So what's it taste like? This blend is super easy drinking, with
the characteristic chocolate taste, and relatively mild over all coffee flavours. I can tell it's not up to the
standard of the more quality Blue Mountain beans, but it still captures the certain something of that better
bean. I wish it had stronger flavours, but I can not fault the flavours it does have. I just can't stop drinking
it, and even as I type this I have a craving for more.
Now the sad news kids. I only
managed to find one link that lists anything to do with National Coffee Brands Inc. and that was a link to an
online store that seems
to sell assorted National Coffee Brands Inc coffees. Then again maybe Jack was just lucky to find this bag, and maybe
Jack should go looking for more. Damn, now I gotta walk and all that kinda stuff, when I was just getting comfortable
on the couch with a fresh cup of coffee.
